JAKARTA - Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono invited Italy to increase its investment in the country, especially in strategic sectors such as renewable energy, electric vehicles, agriculture to infrastructure.

He said that when receiving an honorary visit from the Italian Ambassador to Indonesia Roberto Colaminè at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jakarta, Friday.

Foreign Minister Sugiono said that Indonesia is currently very focused on accelerating the transformation of the green economy, technology independence, and strengthening the national strategic industry.

In this case, continued the Indonesian Foreign Minister, cooperation with Italy is an important part of efforts to achieve national targets, especially in the main sectors that are of common concern.

"Indonesia is currently trying to modernize its fishing fleet to strengthen food security and support sustainable maritime economic growth," said Foreign Minister Sugiono in a statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Friday, May 16.

In this meeting, defense cooperation was also the main topic discussed by the Indonesian Foreign Minister and the Italian Ambassador. In recent years, defense cooperation between Indonesia and Italy has become closer, especially in the procurement of the main weapon system (Alutsista).

The Indonesian Foreign Minister emphasized that in the future defense cooperation will not only be procured, but also in technology transfer, joint production and capacity building to support the independence of the national defense industry.

In the trade sector, Italy is Indonesia's third-largest trading partner in Europe. Last year, the value of bilateral trade between the two countries reached 3.95 US dollars. Meanwhile, the value of Italian investment in Indonesia recorded a significant increase of 46 percent, reaching 70.5 million US dollars.

He added that this meeting reflected the strong commitment of the two countries to continue to maximize the potential for mutually beneficial cooperation.

Close relations between Indonesia and Italy are expected to continue to make a positive contribution to the two countries, both in the bilateral context and in international forums.
