6 Fishermen Evacuated After Boat Dies Engine In Wakatobi Waters

KENDARI The Wakatobi SAR Post Rescue Team managed to evacuate six fishermen who had a sea accident due to their boat's engine failure around the waters of Kaledupa Island, Wakatobi Regency, Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra), Friday, May 16 in the morning.

Head of the Kendari Basarnas, Aminuddin PS, said the first report was received from one of the victims at 01.50 WITA. Information said that a boat with six people inside had an engine failure in the middle of the sea.

"The SAR team was immediately dispatched from the Wakatobi SAR Post to the location, about 27 nautical miles from Marina Wanci Port," Aminuddin said, quoted from Antara.

At 04.00 WITA, the team managed to find six fishermen safe, about 2.32 nautical miles from their starting point reported.

Four people were immediately evacuated using Basarnas rubber boats. While the other two remained on the boat waiting for additional assistance while making repairs," he explained.

Four fishermen who were evacuated arrived safely at Marina Wanci Port at 06.00 WITA.

With the success of the evacuation, the SAR Operation was officially declared complete and closed.
