JAKARTA - President Donald Trump said ending the conflict was his priority, not starting a conflict, but not hesitate to use his military force if needed to defend the United States and its allies.
President Trump said this during a speech to his soldiers at the United States Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, before ending his visit to the country on Thursday.
"As president, my priority is ending the conflict, not starting it, but I will never hesitate to use American powers if needed to defend the United States or our partners," President Trump said.
"Our army is fighting against the enemy of civilization and defeating terrorism. Our army is realizing American power and is the strongest in the world," he added.
President Trump visited the US base at the center of involvement of Uncle Sam's country in the Middle East, when he took advantage of a four-day visit to Gulf countries to reject the United States' past "interventionism" in the region.
On that occasion, President Trump also praised Qatar's plans to invest its funds in US airbases.
"Qatar will invest $10 billion in Al Udeid Air Base and the US base will soon have F47 fighter jets," he explained, regarding the sixth-generation fighter aircraft under construction.
"We will not hesitate to use force to defend America and our allies," he said.
Earlier, President Trump and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani witnessed the signing of a joint cooperation declaration between the two governments, as well as a letter of offer and acceptance for the MQ-9B drone and the FS-LIDS anti-drone system, according to a Qatar News Agency report.
President Trump thanked the issuer for Qatar's hospitality and described Sheikh Tamim as an old friend and trusted partner.
