Prabowo: PUIC Is Increasingly Relevant In Facing Global Challenges And Polarization

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto stated that the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) is an important forum in facing increasingly complex global challenges.

The Head of State when he started his speech at the DPR building, said that PUIC was increasingly relevant in the midst of world polarization.

"This association of Islamic countries was born from the common awareness that the Islamic world needs a forum for togetherness between parliamentary institutions in facing global challenges and to defend the interests of Muslims everywhere," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, May 14.

President Prabowo expressed his appreciation and great hope for the role of PUIC as a bridge to parliamentary diplomacy that strengthens solidarity between Islamic countries, voiced justice, and offers solutions to various complicated issues at the global level.

According to the Head of State, collaboration between Islamic parliaments is a strategic instrument in encouraging a fairer and more peaceful world order.

The President also expressed his pride for the trust given to Indonesia as the host of the 19th PUIC Session.

"Today, I am talking to representatives of a quarter of the humans on this earth. You are representatives of all Muslims, from Islamic countries in the world," he said.

The PUIC 19th Conference was held to coincide with the 25th anniversary (silver jubilee) PUIC since its establishment in 1999. The 19th PUIC Conference was attended by a total of 450 parliamentary delegates from OKI countries from 38 countries, including 10 observer countries (observers).
