West Sumatra BNNP Fails To Smuggle 1.5 Kg Of Crystal Methamphetamine In Bukittinggi

The West Sumatra Provincial National Narcotics Agency (BNNP) succeeded in thwarting an attempt to smuggle 1.5 kilograms of methamphetamine in Bukittinggi City. Three suspects were arrested in the operation.

The head of the West Sumatra BNNP, Police Brigadier General Ricky Yanuarfi, said that the disclosure of this case began with intelligence information received by the BNNP Eradication and Intelligence Team on Monday, May 12, 2025. The information stated that there was a plan to send methamphetamine from Aceh Province using an Inter-Sumatra Bus (ALS).

The joint team of the West Sumatra BNNP together with the Payakumbuh BNNK and West Pasaman BNNK conducted intensive observations on the border of North Sumatra and West Sumatra. At around 07.36 WIB, an ALS bus suspected of crossing the border area, "said Ricky, quoted on Wednesday, May 14.

When the bus arrived at the PT ALS pool in Bukittinggi City at around 09.30 WIB, the team immediately carried out an ambush and managed to secure three suspects. They have the initials AL (41) from Bireuen, N (24) from North Aceh, and S (38) from East Aceh.

From the results of the search, officers found methamphetamine hidden in various parts of the perpetrator's body with the mode of disguise. In addition to methamphetamine, other evidence was also secured in the form of an account book and three ATM cards, five mobile phones, and a brown wallet.

"Based on the initial information from one of the suspects, the methamphetamine came from someone in the Bireuen area, Aceh," said Ricky.

The suspects were charged with Article 114 Paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 112 Paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 132 Paragraph (1) of Law Number 35 Year 2009 concerning Narcotics. They face the maximum sentence in the form of the death penalty.

Ricky emphasized that the West Sumatra BNNP would not provide space for illicit narcotics trafficking in its area.

"We are committed to eradicating illicit narcotics trafficking and inviting all elements of society to jointly save the nation's generation from the threat of drugs," he said.
