JAKARTA - The chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, held a bilateral meeting with the Chairman of the Malaysian People's Council, Tan Sri Dato' Johari bin Abdul, on the sidelines of the 19th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) which was held in Jakarta, Tuesday, May 13.
In this meeting, Puan invited Malaysia to be with the DPR to become a driving force for solidarity among Muslim countries.
The meeting took place in an intimate and warm atmosphere at a hotel restaurant, Tuesday night. Puan was accompanied by the Chairman of Commission I of the DPR Utut Adianto, Deputy Chairperson of BKSAP Irine Yusiana Roba Putri, Deputy Chairman of Commission XI Dolfie Othniel Frederic Palit, and Member of the House of Representatives Gilang Dhielafararez.
At the beginning of the meeting, Puan congratulated Malaysia's leadership as Chair of ASEAN 2025 and expressed its support for the theme promoted: Inclusiveness and Sustainability.
"I believe Malaysia is able to carry out this mandate well," said Puan.
He hopes that Indonesia and Malaysia can continue to strengthen cooperation, not only in politics and security, but also in the economic, trade and social sectors.
"We need to strengthen defense and security cooperation for the sake of regional stability. This is not only the interests of the two countries, but also the ASEAN as a whole," said Puan.
Puan also encouraged strengthening parliamentary cooperation through bilateral and regional forums, including through PUIC and the Bilateral Cooperation Group.
"The parliamentary Forum is important as a space for consolidation of solidarity between Islamic countries in the midst of global challenges," said Puan.

In addition to political issues, Puan alluded to the importance of increasing trade cooperation, especially the palm oil sector and the digital economy. He also encourages strengthening collaboration in the fields of education, empowering youth, and tourism between communities.
"Indonesia's relations are not just a matter of geography and culture. But about strengthening the welfare of the people," he added.
Gilang Dhielafararez said the meeting was full of warmth. He said the Speaker of the Malaysian Parliament directly invited Puan to attend AIPA 2025 in Malaysia, along with Malaysia's role as the host.

The 19th PUIC Conference itself was held at the DPR Building since May 12, 2025.
