Making Residents Uneasy, Dozens Of Thugs In Makassar Arrested By Officials

The Makassar Police continue to carry out strict efforts to eradicate thuggery and disturbances in public order. In an integrated operation that was carried out intensively, dozens of people were arrested for allegedly being involved in activities that disturbed the public, including drinking parties, illegal motor convoys, and possession of sharp weapons.

Kapolrestabes Makassar, Kombes Pol Arya Perdana, stated that this operation is a combined anticipatory and repressive step to suppress street crimes, especially those that occur on weekends.

"We continue to move to take precautions as well as take action against violations that have the potential to disrupt public security," he said, Sunday (11/5).

A total of 230 personnel were deployed and deployed to vulnerable points in the Makassar City area, especially in Tamalanrea and Biringkanaya sub-districts, locations that have been reported to often occur in brawls and reckless acts.

In carrying out the operation, the police secured at least 78 teenagers and youths caught consuming liquor. They also secured 32 motorbikes without official documents and did not comply with technical standards, including the use of noisy exhausts (brongs).

Some of them carry sharp weapons such as bows and arrows. This is very dangerous. We are processing decisively, especially if there are indications of a violation of the law," said Arya.

Head of the Makassar Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Kompol Devi Sujana, added that the teenagers who were arrested were suspected of planning a wild convoy at night, which could potentially lead to criminal acts.

"There are reports from the public regarding suspicious activities in a number of locations. After being investigated, we found drinking parties and planned convoy action. For that we conducted a sweep and took them to the police station for further investigation," he explained.

This operation will continue for the next two weeks, especially on Saturday and Sunday nights. The police hope that this step will be able to provide a deterrent effect and create a conducive situation for the people of Makassar.
