JAKARTA - Minister of Culture Fadli Zon supports the proposal to determine the MPR/DPR RI Building as a National Cultural Conservation. He considered the building to be a historical building that deserves national protection.

"The DPR building has become a historical building, especially since it is also my alma mater and a government partner. Of course it will be a priority," said Fadli when receiving the Secretary General of the Indonesian House of Representatives Indra Iskandar at the Ministry of Culture Office, Jakarta, Thursday, May 8.

Currently, the parliament building in Senayan has been designated as a provincial-level cultural heritage by the DKI Jakarta Government. The proposal to increase status to national status is proposed so that its protection and utilization can be maximized and integrated in the nation's cultural conservation policy.

Fadli explained that the determination process will be handled by the Directorate General of Cultural and Traditional Protection under the Restu of Gunawan. The Cultural Conservation Expert Team (TACB) will also conduct a study. As long as the data is complete from the DKI Provincial Government, the process will be easier," he said.

Secretary General of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Indra Iskandar, said that the DPR Building is now 60 years old and has become a symbol of democracy and the center of the national legislation process. He assessed that the building has high historical and architectural value.

This building was designed by famous Indonesian architects, Frederich Silaban and Soejoedi Wirjoatmodjo. The iconic shape of the arch roof has witnessed various important events in the history of Indonesian state administration.

Fadli emphasized the Ministry of Culture's commitment to support the preservation of strategic historic buildings. He also emphasized the importance of collaboration between the central and regional governments, especially in completing historical documents and technical studies to support the process of determining national status.
