Police Monitor Worldcoin-World ID After Komdigi Freezes

JAKARTA - The National Police will monitor Worldcoin and World ID activities that have the potential to cause a commotion. Because, activities are prone to cyber crime.

Worldcoin and World ID are said to provide rewards to people who want their retinal data or biometrics to be recorded. The value starts from Rp. 200 thousand to Rp. 800 thousand.

"Every development of crime in terms of technological developments is of course also a social concern," said Karo Penmas, Police Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, quoted on Tuesday, May 6.

Monitoring is carried out solely to maintain security stability for the community. Meanwhile, regarding legal steps in the form of prosecution, Trunoyudo said it could be done as long as there was a criminal element.

However, regarding prosecution, the National Police will also coordinate with relevant agencies. Thus, steps are taken according to the rules.

"Of course, steps will be taken. However, in every development, the law enforcement process is also inseparable from synergy," he said.

Previously, it was reported that the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs through the Directorate General of Digital Space Supervision temporarily froze the List of Electronic System Operators (TDPSE) for Worldcoin and WorldID services.

Director General of Digital Space Supervision, Alexander Sabar, emphasized that this step was taken following public reports regarding suspicious activities related to Worldcoin and WorldID services.

This embedding is a preventive measure to prevent potential risks to society. We will also summon PT. Terang Bulan Abadi for official clarification in the near future," said Alex in his official statement.

After this suspension, then, Komdigi will immediately summon PT. Terang Bulan Abadi and PT. Sandina Abadi Nusantara to provide clarification on alleged violations of the provisions for the implementation of the electronic system.

According to the preliminary search results, Alex said that PT. Terang Bulan Abadi has not been registered as an Electronic System Operator (PSE) and does not have TDPSE as required in the legislation.

Meanwhile, on the other hand, the Worldcoin service is recorded as using TDPSE in the name of another legal entity, namely PT. Sandina Abadi Nusantara.
