Two Indian Foreign Quarantine Mafia Suspects Arrested, One At Hotel, One At Their Family Home

JAKARTA - The police have arrested two foreigners from India in connection with the quarantine mafia case at Soekarno-Hatta Airport. The two of them were arrested after becoming fugitives.

The two Indian foreigners had the initials MS and SR. They were taken into custody, Wednesday, April 28. One of them was arrested at the Holiday Inn Hotel, which is a quarantine location. He only entered the hotel after being a fugitive.

"Last night the two people were found, one was at his family's house, the other one turned out to be at the Holiday Inn Hotel. He already check-in", said Head of Public Relations of Jakarta Metro Police Kombes Yusri Yunus to reporters, Thursday, April 29.

However, both of them were not immediately examined. Investigators are coordinating with the COVID-19 Task Force. Because they must be quarantined first.

"Will it be possible to carry out an examination later after 14 days of isolation, because we put it all in the Holiday Inn Hotel for 14 days of isolation", said Yusri.

This case began when Air Asia's charter flight QZ 988 from Chennai, India arrived at Soekarno-Hatta Airport on April 21.

There are 132 passengers on the plane. However, after being tracked down, it turned out that several passengers did not follow the quarantine process. They were made suspects.

In this case, the suspects were charged with Article 93 in conjunction with Article 9 paragraph 1 of Law No. 6 of 2018 concerning Quarantine and/or Article 14 Paragraph 1 of Law No. 4 of 1984 concerning Outbreaks of Infectious Diseases. The threat of a sentence of one year in prison.
