JAKARTA - Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka said artificial intelligence (AI) technology plays a role in unraveling congestion during the Lebaran homecoming flow to detect criminal acts such as pickpockets on electric rail trains (KRL).

"Usually there is a buildup of vehicles, the accumulation of cars is outsidetol and others. But yesterday's homecoming was quite smooth, even though the number of vehicles increased yesterday," said Gibran while attending the "Creative Job Opportunity with AI" event at Bina Nusantara University, Jakarta, Friday, May 2, reported by ANTARA.

Gibran said PT Jasa Marga had used AI to monitor traffic along toll roads during the Lebaran homecoming flow.

With the help of the system, officers can determine policies such as "one-way" or more effective contra flow.

In addition, the Vice President also said that the number of accidents during this year's homecoming decreased compared to the previous year.

Gibran gave an example of the implementation of AI at PT KAI, especially at KRL, which uses sophisticated cameras with the ability of "face recognition" to identify criminals such as pickpockets.

"Is anyone going on a KRL or not? There is a sophisticated camera using AI too, there can be a face recognition. If there is a pickpocket or something, it will be caught like that," said the vice president.

According to him, AI does not only function to create graphic content, but rather plays a role in facilitating daily work.

The Vice President emphasized that AI technology will not replace humans, but humans who do not use AI will be less competitive with those who use it.

On that occasion, Gibran also appreciated Binus students who succeeded in creating innovations such as drowsiness detectors and games by utilizing AI technology.

"So once again I am very happy that Binus is capturing this opportunity. So besides being able to answer the challenges of the times, all of the children here will be ready to work as well, that's the most important thing," said the Vice President.
