JAKARTA - Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) Atnike Nova Sigiro said that the right to decent work for every citizen is a cross-sectoral responsibility that must be carried out collaboratively.
"The right to decent work is part of human rights. This means that it does not only belong to people who work, but also every citizen; and it is a cross-ministerial responsibility, not just the Ministry of Manpower," said Atnike at the Komnas HAM RI Office, Jakarta, Friday, May 2, as quoted by Antara.
Parties in the education sector, she added, are needed to produce higher quality human resources. Meanwhile, players in the industrial and trade sectors are needed to build business practices that respect human rights.
Komnas HAM is included among the parties responsible for fulfilling the right to decent work. In this context, Atnike said that her party will play a greater role in the supervision side.
"Komnas HAM plays a greater role in supervising, has the fulfillment and protection of human rights been carried out by the state to the maximum?" she said.

Furthermore, Atnike encouraged the government to continue to strengthen efforts to fulfill its obligations in respect, protect, and fulfill the right to decent work, both as economic, social, cultural, and civil and political rights.
Komnas HAM also encourages the business sector to respect human dignity as a foundation in work relations and industrial relations, while encouraging workers and labor unions to fight for their rights in an organized, collective, and peaceful manner.
Komnas HAM on Friday launched Standard Norms and Regulations (SNP) Number 14 on the Right to Decent Work as a guideline for the government and employers.
She explained that Komnas HAM, through SNP Number 14, explores and formulates interpretations, both of international human rights norms and regulations at the national level.
Atnike invites all parties to use the SNP as a tool for transformation and a foundation for improving policies, encouraging labor reform, and restoring the dignity of workers in Indonesia.
"The right to work is not only the right to get a job, but the right to get a decent job," said the Chairperson of Komnas HAM.
