May Day, Tens Of Thousands Of Workers Depart For Monas

BEKASI - As many as 25,000 workers from Cikarang, Bekasi Regency, West Java, departed to attend the commemoration of International Labor Day (May Day) towards the center of activity at Monas Field, Jakarta from a number of points.

"There are approximately 25,000 workers in the industrial area," said Bekasi Against (BBM) Coordinator Sarino in Cikarang, Thursday, May 1, as reported by ANTARA.

Tens of thousands of workers departed for Jakarta from a number of gathering points spread across the Bekasi Regency industrial area. President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to meet mass workers on this year's May Day commemoration.

"The May Day celebration is centered at the Jakarta Monas Field which will be attended directly by President Prabowo," he said.

Masses of workers were observed starting to depart from the gathering point which is divided into areas of MM2100, GIIC Deltamas, Jababeka II, Gobel Cibitung, Jababeka I, EJIP, Lippo, and Hyundai at 08.00 WIB.

Monitoring in the industrial area of East Jakarta Industrial Park (EJIP) Cikarang, 50 more buses containing full workers and dozens of four-wheeled vehicles have just been dispatched to Monas.

Sarino stated that a number of demands were voiced in this year's May Day action, including the elimination of outsourced systems, decent wages, and the ratification of the Employment Bill (RUU).

"The demand is to remove outsourcing, decent wages, layoffs task force, ratify the Manpower Bill, ratify the Asset Confiscation Bill, ratify the Housework Workers Protection Bill (PPRT), and eradicate corruption," he said.
