JAKARTA - Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Mendiktisaintek) Brian Yuliarto emphasized the importance of anti-corruption education for all Indonesian students.

The statement was made after the signing of a joint commitment between the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) and the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to organize anti-corruption education as a preventive measure and to build a generation with integrity.

"Awareness to behave honestly, stay away from cheating, and have integrity still needs to be developed. These traits should be the basis for the growth of other capacities for children and adolescents, especially in education," said Brian Yuliarto in a statement quoted from Antara, Tuesday, April 29.

The Minister of Education and Technology appreciated the KPK's initiative to plan anti-corruption education at all levels of education, including universities, which will be included in the Curriculum Mandatory Lecture (MKWK).

According to him, this step plays an important role in creating a generation that has strong principles.

"It will take a long time to grow integrity to become part of a culture. We certainly need cooperation with the KPK to get directions from experts in this field," said the Minister of Education and Technology.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chairperson of the KPK, Ibnu Basuki Widodo, expressed the KPK's enthusiasm in collaborating with the Ministry of Education and Technology. The two also discussed other potential collaborations, such as anti-corruption campaigns within the Ministry of Education and Technology as well as possible research grants related to anti-corruption.

"We hope that the Ministry of Education and Technology can continue to provide support in the implementation of anti-corruption education," said Ibnu.

Deputy for Education and Community Participation of the KPK, Wawan Wardiana, added that anti-corruption education needs not only be given to students, but also to lecturers, education staff, and campus leadership ranks.

"We have met with several campus leaders to discuss this. We are also ready to facilitate academic and practical training for lecturers who want to provide anti-corruption education," said Wawan.
