JAKARTA - The Provincial Government (Pemprov) of DKI Jakarta implements a Large-Scale Social Restriction (PSBB) regulation for six days. The police as the apparatus enforcing this rule noted that there was a decrease in the number of violators of the rule during the several days of implementation.

Based on data on the prosecution of motorists as of Monday, April 13, there were around 3,377 violations. Then, on the second day of action, it decreased to around 2,000 violations. There are two kinds of violations recorded from this action, namely not wearing a mask while driving, and riding a ride.

"Yesterday we conveyed our persuasive and humane firmness, and we gave sanctions and written letters for PSBB violators. So far, the decrease in the number of violators means that public awareness is high," said Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Yusri Yunus in Jakarta, Wednesday, April 15th.

Yusri said the action was only carried out on the fourth day in accordance with the governor's regulation. The first three days, said Yusri, were carried out to educate and disseminate the rules to the public.

The form of action taken by the police is to issue a warning letter that resembles a ticket. This letter contains only five types of violations for two-wheeled vehicles and three violations for four-wheeled vehicles.

Although the violators will not be subject to ticket sanctions, Yusri said, their identities will be recorded in the police. So, later the offender can find out who repeated his mistake.

"The letter was modified to include any violations and be reprimanded. For example, not wearing masks and whatever. Later for our data collection in the database," said Yusri.

Offenders will also not be confiscated from a driver's license (SIM) or vehicle registration certificate (STNK). However, when the offender repeats it, the officer will give the appropriate sanction to the DKI Governor Regulation number 33 of 2020.

"It's not (SIM or STNK confiscation). We want to educate the people, hopefully they will be aware, hopefully with a warning. Will it be imposed by law? There are threats but that's the last option," said Yusri.

Meanwhile, for the data on prosecution as of Wednesday, April 15, Yusri said he could not submit it because of the expansion of around 123 check points spread across seven regions. Five of them are supporting areas for the capital city and two at ports and airports. Thus, there are a total of 158 check points.

"Depok, Bekasi now have 158 points including Tangerang and Tangsel. There is also one addition at the airport (Soekarno Hatta) and one at the port of Tanjung Priok," said Yusri.

In taking action, Yusri continued, the Police were guided by the DKI Governor Regulation number 33 of 2020 concerning the Implementation of Large-Scale Social Restrictions or PSBB in Handling COVID-19.

"For private two-wheeled vehicles, it is permissible to ride a ride, but provided that it has one address because physical distancing must be prioritized," said Yusri.

Meanwhile, online motorcycle taxis are not allowed to carry passengers. They can only carry and deliver ordered items.

"Then for the two-wheeled mode using the application is only allowed to transport goods. That is our basis for moving," said Yusri.
