JAKARTA - An engineer fell victim to a fake investment scheme promoted through a website with a total loss of RM1.1 million or around Rp4.2 billion.

Pahang Datuk Police Chief Seri Yahaya Othman said the 36-year-old victim was first interested in the scheme and started investing through an online platform on December 3, 2024.

He said the victim made 19 transactions involving seven different bank accounts, using his savings and loans from family and friends to invest.

"However, the victim only received a refund of RM15,032.53 before the platform administrator began providing various reasons to block the withdrawal of more than RM4 million, which is suspected to be an advantage of the investment," he said in a statement today, Tuesday, April 22, quoted by Bernama.

Yahaya added that the victim, after realizing that she had been deceived, filed a police report at the Kuantan district police headquarters on Monday, April 21.
