Pope Francis Dies, Jakarta Cathedral Church Prepares Requiem Mass Thursday 24 April

JAKARTA - The Jakarta Cathedral Church will hold a mass requiem or mass spirit for Pope Francis on Thursday 24 April. Pope Francis died at the Vatican on Monday morning local time.

"Thursday afternoon there will be a requiem mass at the Cathedral Church at 18.00," said the Archbishop of the Jakarta Archdiocese (KAJ) Ignatius Cardinal Suharyo to reporters at the Cathedral Church.

He also asked every parish in the Archdiocese of Jakarta to perform a requiem mass at their respective parishes.

"It is hoped that parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Jakarta will also hold spirit prayers in their respective parishes," said Cardinal Suharyo.

Pope Francis died on Monday (21/4/2025) local time. Pope Francis is a titup at the age of 88.

Pope Francis, whose real name is Jorge Mario Bergoglio, is the first Pope from Argentina and also the first Latin American to lead the Roman Catholic Church, to have about 1.4 billion followers worldwide. He has served as Pope since March 2013.
