JAKARTA - Illegal parking in Jakarta is still difficult to control until it is complete. Recently, it went viral on social media, residents were pegged for illegal roadside parking of up to IDR 60 thousand in the Tanah Abang shopping area, Central Jakarta.

Transportation observer from the Indonesian Transportation Society (MTI), Djoko Setijowarno said, it has become a common secret that there is a role for community organizations (ormas) in controlling illegal parking in Jakarta.

This is one of the reasons why there are still parties who control the land to be used as illegal parking.

"In Jakarta, there is a lot of parking whose money does not go into the local government treasury, but goes to mass organizations. In the past, Anies had a lot of consequences like that. To help win the election, then the consequences are parking control. Not only in Jakarta, the regions are the same," Djoko told VOI, Sunday, April 20.

After changing leadership of the Governor of DKI Jakarta, which is now held by Pramono Anung, Djoko assessed that it was time for the DKI Provincial Government to seriously eradicate illegal parking.

"Now Pramono Anung has no political promises, like Anies, say. Now is an opportunity for Pramono to clean up all illegal parking," said Djoko.

A number of ways that Pramono can do is make regulations that require parking attendants to wear official uniforms from the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency.

"Then make a rule that if there is no ticket for parking, there is no need to pay. Anyway, parking must have proof of payment. Announce it to the public," explained Djoko.

This, continued Djoko, needs to be done so that parking fees in Jakarta can increase regional income and be allocated as transportation subsidies.

"Parkir is actually one of the sources of income for public transportation subsidies. The potential is large, one year in Jakarta can be more than IDR 1 trillion on the side of the road, on street. But now it is controlled a lot," he explained.

Previously, DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung assessed that illegal parking matters were one of the focuses that his government had to complete. You see, many want to be managers.
