JAKARTA - A father and son died after a road hole collapsed swallowing the car they had brought to Italy.

The victims, named Leone (64) and Francesco Nardon (21), were driving to Valdagno City in Vicenza, northern Italy on Saturday night local time.

Citing Mirror.co.uk, both of them wanted to try to help save flood victims in the area they were going to. However, in the middle of the road their car passed through the collapsed location.

The car that the two were traveling in was then swallowed by the collapsed road hole fell into the Agno River.

Leone was found by the SAR team at the bottom of the Agno River, while Nardon, Francesco's engineering student, was found near the car.

The SAR team suspected that the two of them were trying to escape from the vehicle but were trapped in the swift currents of the river.

President of the administrative state of Veneto in Italy, Luca Zaia expressed his deep sorrow for what happened to his citizens in the natural disaster that hit Vicenza.

"This is a tragedy. The loss of these two lives will be remembered. I extend my condolences to the families of the two victims," Luca said.
