PALEMBANG - The General Election Commission (KPU) of Empat Lawang, South Sumatra Province, is targeting voter participation in the re-voting (PSU) of the local regent and deputy regent elections to reach 80 percent.
The chairman of KPU Empat Lawang Eskan Budiman who was contacted from Palembang, Saturday, expressed optimism that the 80 percent voter target was achieved because in the 2024 simultaneous regional elections his participation reached 72 percent.
According to him, community participation can increase, considering that in this election there are two pairs of candidates who compete directly, because previously the Pilkada Empat Lawang was only followed by one pair (empty box).
The PSU for the Four Lawang Regional Head Election was attended by two pairs of candidates who will compete, namely Budi Antoni Aljufri-Henny Verawati and Joncik Muhammad-Arifa'i.

The competition between the two candidates will bring out more lively dynamics, as well as triggering active involvement from voters.
"We believe that community participation can increase, especially this time there are only two pairs of candidates who compete directly, making it easier for the public to make choices," he explained.
In addition, this target is still very potential to be boosted through a direct approach to the community, election education, and cooperation with various parties including community leaders and democratic volunteers.
"We urge the entire community not to waste this opportunity. Your choice will determine the direction of development and the future of Empat Lawang in the next five years," said Eskan.
KPU Empat Lawang recorded the number of permanent voters (DPT) in the implementation of the PSU as many as 257,020 voters spread across 531 polling stations in 10 sub-districts.
