BOGOR A female leopard that had terrorized a residential area in Ciwarna Village, Mancak District, Serang Regency, Banten, on Thursday, March 27, 2025, is currently undergoing treatment at Taman Safari Indonesia (TSI), Cisarua, Bogor.

The head of the West Java KSDA Center, Agus Arianto, explained that the beetle is currently still in the observation stage by the TSI veterinarian team.

According to Agus, the decision whether the wildlife will be released back into the wild or remain in captivity will be determined after the results of the medical and laboratory examinations are complete.

"It is not certain whether he has cardiovascular disease (CVD) or not. We are still waiting for the results of the laboratory," Agus said when met at TSI, Wednesday, April 16.

Meanwhile, Vice President of Life Science TSI Group, drh. Bongot Huaso Mulia, said that the leopard had been named Mancak, according to the name of the area of origin. Since his arrival at TSI on Thursday (27/3/2025), Mancak has received special treatment.

At first, Mancak was placed in a non-iron cage to prevent him from injuring himself if he rebelled. However, his behavior turned out to be calm and tended to be quiet. He doesn't even touch the food provided, including live chickens and goats that can usually evoke wild animal hunting instincts.

"At TSI, we are not used to providing living food, but for Mancak we try to give live chickens and goats according to their natural habitat. But they are not touched at all," said drh. Bongot.

He added that Mancak came in poor physical condition. There is swelling on the cheeks and wounds on the nose which are still being treated and supervised by veterinarians.

Mancak had previously preyed on six goats belonging to residents before finally being successfully evacuated using a trap cage on Wednesday (26/3/2025), between 17.00 and 22.00 WIB.

Now, the TSI team is still monitoring the health conditions and behavior of Mancak as a whole. Laboratory results will determine the next steps.

"We need to make sure whether his condition will return to its original state, including the possibility of becoming aggressive again. For now, his behavior is still calm," said Bongot.

TSI Commissioner and Secretary General of the Indonesian Zoo Association (PKBSI), Tony Sumampau, stated that his party is ready to release Mancak if conditions and procedures are possible.

"The release must go through a mutually agreed protocol between the zoo, BKSDA, and NGO. If it is not yet possible, we are ready to take care of Mancak at TSI until his condition improves," he said.
