JAKARTA - Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi stressed Iran's right to enrich uranium is non-negotiable.

This was conveyed by Aragchi ahead of the second round of talks in Oman this weekend with the United States on Tehran's disputed nuclear program.

Iran's foreign minister responded to US major negotiator Steve Witkoff's statement that Tehran should "stop and eliminate its nuclear enrichment" to reach an agreement with Washington.

"We have heard the contradictory statement from Witkoff, but the actual position will be clarified at the negotiating table," Aragchi said.

"We are ready to build trust regarding possible concerns over Iran's enrichment (uranium), but the principle of enrichment cannot be negotiated," he continued.

Iran and the US will hold a second round of talks in Oman on Saturday over Tehran's rising nuclear program, in which President Donald Trump threatens military action if there is no agreement.

Prior to the talks, Aragchi would convey a message from Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei to Russian President Vladimir Putin on his way to Russia.

The Kremlin on Tuesday declined to comment when asked if Russia was ready to take over Iran's enriched uranium stock as part of a possible future nuclear deal between Iran and the United States.

The Guardian reports that Tehran is expected to reject US proposals to transfer uranium stocks to third countries such as Russia as part of a deal Washington is working on to reduce Iran's nuclear program.
