JAKARTA - Human Rights Minister (HAM) Natalius Pigai said President Prabowo Subianto's plan to temporarily evacuate Gazans, Palestinians to Indonesia was in accordance with the mandate of the 1945 Constitution.
"What was conveyed by the President was in accordance with the constitutional mandate of the 1945 Constitution, namely Indonesia helped create world peace," Pigai said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, April 15.
Because of that, Pigai said he followed the President's stance.
According to Pigai, a more specific arrangement regarding the evacuation plan will be discussed further after Prabowo returns to the country from his international visit.
"I'll go home later, sure enough. If we say specific things like what [now], we all don't know," he said.
Previously, President Prabowo stated that the Indonesian government was ready to accommodate approximately 1,000 Palestinians in Gaza for the first wave, especially those injured, those affected by trauma, and orphans.
"We are ready to send planes to transport them. We estimate the number is 1,000 for the first wave," said the President during a press conference at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, Jakarta, before leaving for Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, Wednesday (9/4) in the morning.
The President stressed that the plan to evacuate 1,000 Palestinians in Gaza who were injured in the Israeli military offensive was not aimed at relocating them from their homes.
The President explained that the evacuation plan was only temporary. If the situation in Gaza stabilizes again, the survivors of the evacuated war will later be sent back there.
"No, no, no. We are here to help," he said when met after attending the Antalya Diplomacy Forum in Antalya City, Turkey, Friday (11/4) afternoon local time.
The President also stressed that the plan is still being consulted with Palestinian leaders and a number of country leaders in the Middle East region.
"Yes, that's our offer to participate in helping humanitarian issues, the suffering of the Palestinian people is so devastating. We want to do something," he said.

This was conveyed by the President when he was met before his return to Jakarta at Marka Air Base, Amman, Jordan, Monday (14/4) afternoon local time.
"Alhamdulillah, we got a clear 'update', we hope that in the near future there will be a good breakthrough, of course," said President Prabowo.
