Corruption At The Jambi Provincial Education Office Loses Rp21.89 Billion To The State, 1 Person Becomes A Suspect

JAMBI - The Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimsus) of the Jambi Police revealed a corruption case at the Jambi Province Education Office (Disdik) which caused state losses of Rp. 21.89 billion.

Wadir Reskrimsus Jambi Police AKBP Taufik Nurmandia said the major corruption allegations that were revealed were related to the procurement of main practice equipment included in the physical DAK SMK.

"After receiving a report from the audit, it was revealed that state losses were estimated at Rp. 21.89 billion," he said in Jambi, Antara, Friday, April 11.

Based on the investigator's report, the Rp180 billion worth of education funds disbursed in March 2021 is suspected of having been misused. The funds cover Rp51 billion for high school and more than Rp122 billion for 16 vocational schools.

The Investigative Team has examined logistics and procurement documents, as well as confiscated Rp6 billion in cash. There are at least three reports that have been submitted to the police regarding this case, with one case already in the process stage and three others still under investigation.

The police have implemented a suspect with the initials ZH as a commitment-making official (PPK) in 2021. During the investigation, indications of a conspiracy between the PPK and the service provider related to the procurement process with a fee of 17 percent were found.

Investigators also found price inflations (markups) of a number of items. The results of the examination of a number of practical tools in a number of vocational schools showed the quality of goods that were not in accordance with standards.

Goods that have been checked, such as washing machines, facilities and others that are said to be incompatible with specifications and not suitable for use.

"Yesterday, experts from ITS were also summoned to assess the quality of goods and found that there was a violation of the law. And after being examined, it turned out that the goods had been marked and were detrimental to the state. The point was that the goods were no longer suitable for use," he said.

The suspect in this case was charged with Article 2 Paragraph 1, Article 3, Article 5 Paragraph 2 Junto, Article 18 Junto, and Article 15 of the Constitution Number 31 of 1999 related to Corruption with a minimum penalty of four years and a maximum of 20 years in prison and a maximum fine of IDR 1 billion.
