JAKARTA - Member of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Gilang Dhielafararez, condemned the sexual violence committed by an anesthetist who participated in the Specialist Doctor Education Program (PPDS) of the Faculty of Medicine, Padjadjaran University (Unpad) against family members of patients at Hasan Sadikin Hospital (RSHS) Bandung, West Java.
Gilang urged the police to thoroughly investigate this case, and the perpetrators were given the harsh threat of punishment. According to him, this case not only damages the image of the medical world, but also serious crimes that injure human values.
"This is not just a violation of ethics, but a serious crime that must be processed transparently, quickly, and fairly. The perpetrator must be punished severely because what he did was really barbaric," said Gilang Dhielafararez, Thursday, April 10.
Gilang emphasized that acts of sexual violence within health facilities are serious crimes that not only injure victims physically and psychologically, but also undermine public trust in medical institutions.
"There should be no room for compromise against perpetrators of sexual violence, especially if it happens in public institutions that should protect the people," said the legislator from the Central Java II electoral district.
As is known, a PPDS doctor majoring in Anestesi from Padjadjaran University (Unpad) named Priguna Anugerah Pratama (31) raped a patient's family member at Hasan Sadikin Hospital (RSHS), Bandung. As for this incident, the victim is a 21 year old woman.
The perpetrator's mode is to pretend to ask for the victim's blood donation for his critical father. The victim was taken to the floor of a new RSHS building that had not been operated and then raped.
Gilang also ensured that Commission III of the DPR RI would monitor the law enforcement process being carried out by the West Java Regional Police. He also encouraged law enforcement officials to use all existing legal instruments to provide justice for victims.
"We fully support the performance of the police in thoroughly investigating this case. The National Police must also ensure maximum protection for victims, including adequate legal and psychological assistance," explained Gilang.
Gilang also asked the National Police to immediately thoroughly investigate this case so that there is justice for victims, especially the police have stated that there are two other victims for the perpetrator's sexual violence.
According to the member of the commission in charge of the law, the actions of the PPDS doctor against the victim who was waiting for his parents at the hospital included a very heinous act and could not be tolerated. In particular, Gilang expressed his concern over what happened to the victim.
"What the perpetrators are doing is very proud. The human side needs to be questioned because they take advantage of the patient's family who is in a state of anxiety when their parents are struggling to recover," he said.
"Deeply sympathy for victims who are not only victims of sexual violence from parties who are supposed to provide protection, but also have to bear additional sadness because their father died," added Gilang.
Gilang also asked for justice to be upheld even though the perpetrator was said to have had a sexual disorder. "Sexual disorder is not a justification for the acts of nirempathy committed by the perpetrator to the victim," he said.
"Justification for victims should not be postponed. This case must be a turning point in building a safe, ethical, and human dignity system," continued Gilang.
Gilang also emphasized the importance of strengthening the internal control mechanism in hospitals and medical education institutions, so that similar cases do not happen again.
"The state must not be careless. Citizens' safety, especially in public spaces such as hospitals, is our shared responsibility. The Ministry of Health and law enforcement officials must use this case as a momentum for comprehensive improvement," he explained.
