Vice President Ma'ruf Amin: Restrictions On Eid Homecoming Increase Online Sales Of Halal Products

JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin said that the imposition of restrictions on the flow of Eid homecoming during Eid Al-Fitr 2020 holiday shows an increase in online sales of halal products.

"In May 2020, it coincides with restrictions on the flow of Eid homecoming and the reduction of holidays throughout the Eid Al-Fitr 1441 Hijri. In fact, there has been a surge in transactions for halal products through the e-commerce marketplace, up to 7.25 percent yoy (year over year)", said Vice President Ma'ruf Amin in an online sharia economic seminar web held by Diponegoro University Semarang, reported by Antara, Wednesday, April 28.

The most purchased halal product by the public online at that time was Muslim clothing, with a market share reaching 86.63 percent of the total nominal transactions in the e-commerce marketplace, he explained.

The Vice President contributed quite a lot to increasing trade in halal products in the country.

"Data from Bank Indonesia recorded nominal transactions of halal products through electronic commerce during May to December 2020, cumulatively, growing 49.52 percent compared to the same period in 2019", he said.

The Vice President hopes that the sharia economic activity can continue to increase so that it can boost national economic growth in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The performance of the sharia economy during the pandemic, he added, was also driven by several priority sectors in the halal value chain that grew positively, especially agriculture and halal food.

Referring to the data from the 2020 Islamic Financial Economy Report from Bank Indonesia, the Vice President said the contraction of the sharia economy was still better. rather than the national economy.

"It takes an economic transformation that is able to move all sectors and involve all people, including the lowest strata of society", he said.
