Jakarta Fair 2020 Which May Not Be Held

JAKARTA - PT Jakarta International Expo (JIExpo) decided to postpone the Jakarta Fair Kemayoran or the Jakarta Fair (PRJ) from the set schedule due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Jakarta Fair is the largest multi-product trade festival and exhibition event in Southeast Asia. The event, which has been held since 1968, was specifically held to celebrate the Jakarta anniversary.

"To the Jakarta Fair participants and the wider community, along with the current situation where COVID-19 is increasingly widespread, we officially inform you that the Jakarta Fair Kemayoran event is temporarily postponed," said PT JIExpo Marketing Director Ralph Scheunemann in a written statement, Tuesday, April 14th.

Ralph explained that the event, which was originally held on May 14 to June 28, 2020, could not possibly be forced to be held, even though the Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB) period in Jakarta was valid until 23 April.

This is because, he said, the epidemic that was determined by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a pandemic is increasingly widespread and worrying, and there is no certainty when it will end.

"In this case, we all agree that there is a much greater interest, namely prioritizing public health and safety in order to prevent and minimize the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia," he said.

Ralph stated that residents need not worry if the Jakarta Fair is not held, because this activity has only been postponed for an undetermined time. Ralph hopes that this situation will recover soon and business activities and exhibitions can run normally again.

"The time and certainty of the implementation will be further informed if the situation has improved and is conducive," he said.

For information, currently DKI has implemented Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB) in order to deal with the COVID-19 outbreak. When this status is applied, the community cannot gather more than five people.

Of course, all events that gather large numbers of people such as music concerts, festivals, and bazaars that are held in Jakarta are requested to be postponed until the COVID-19 emergency response period ends. Several concert events that had been scheduled were canceled.
