BIN Called KKB Terrorist Group, Police: Still KKB, Densus 88 Not Yet Involved

JAKARTA - The National Police said they had not labeled the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) in Papua as terrorists, although a different statement came from the State Intelligence Agency (BIN).

BIN, after the death of the Head of Papua Regional BIN, Brigadier General I Gusti Putu Danny Karya Nugraha, called the KKB a Separatist and Terrorist Group (KST).

"There (Papua) are still armed criminal groups", said Head of Police Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Rusdi Hartono, to reporters, Monday, April 26.

In fact, so far there has been no discussion about involving Densus 88 Anti-terror to agree to change the KKB as a terrorist group.

The Nemangkawi operation team continued to hunt down the group. This is because they have already carried out a series of acts of murder.

"The National Police is currently carrying out the Nemangkawi operation. it's a law enforcement operation", he said.

However, Rusdi said that the process of prosecuting the KKB was not an easy matter. This is because the terrain in Papua which is in the form of steep mountains is one of the factors that make hunting difficult.

"Of course the terrain there is not like this. The terrain is all kinds of mountains, it requires resources that must be maximal, that's the first terrain".

"These two groups often enter the population. Disguise, disguise themselves with residents. They are always trying to see how the pursuits carried out by the security forces can escape", said Rusdi.
