JAKARTA - United States President Donald Trump described his communication with Russian President Vladimir Putin "rationally".

"We've had some very rational discussions and I just want to see people no longer get killed," Trump told news portal OutKick.

Trump also claimed that he knew the Russian leader "very well" and said he was satisfied with the fact that since his first presidential term, his relationship with Putin has remained good, despite allegations of Russian intervention in the US presidential election.

Earlier on March 18, Putin and Trump held telephone talks for two and a half hours, where the two discussed resolving the Ukrainian conflict and expressed a shared desire to normalize relations, given their special responsibility to ensure security and stability in the world, the Kremlin said.

During the conversation, Putin agreed to Trump's proposal for the conflict to stop attacks on energy infrastructure for 30 days.

The next day, Russia's Defense Ministry reported that Ukraine had attacked an oil storage warehouse in Russia just hours after the talks.
