Israel's Attack On Gaza Continues Today, 70 People Died

JAKARTA - Israel's attack on Gaza continued on Thursday. It was reported that 70 Palestinians were killed and dozens injured.

Medics said Israeli attacks targeted several houses in the northern and southern regions of the Gaza Strip. When asked for a response, the Israeli military said it was investigating the report.

Reported by Reuters on Thursday, March 20, the Israeli military has continued airstrikes in Gaza since Tuesday and launched a ground operation on Wednesday, effectively canceling the ceasefire that has been going on since January.

Israeli forces have been involved over the past 24 hours in targeted ground operations to expand the buffer zone separating northern and southern Gaza, known as the Netzarim corridor.

The Israeli military ordered residents to stay away from Jalan Salahuddin, the main northern-south route, and said they should travel along the coast instead.

The first day of airstrikes resumed on Tuesday killed more than 400 Palestinians, one of the deadliest days of the war.

At least 510 Palestinians have been killed in the past three days, more than half of whom are women and children, Khalil Al-Deqran, a spokesman for the regional health ministry, told Reuters.

Palestinian militant group Hamas said Israel's ground operations and raids on the Netzarim Corridor were "new and dangerous violations" of the two-month ceasefire agreement.

Hamas reaffirmed its commitment to the ceasefire deal and called on mediators to "hold their responsibility".

The first phase of a ceasefire ends earlier this month.

Hamas wants to turn to a second agreed phase, in which Israel will be asked to negotiate a halt to war and withdraw its troops, and Israeli hostages detained in Gaza will be exchanged for Palestinian prisoners.
