The existence of the cannabis field was later linked to the ban on the use of unmanned camera (drone) aircraft in the TNBTS area. The discovery of marijuana fields in the Bromo area has occurred since 2024. Based on information provided by the Director General of Natural Resources and Ecosystem Conservation (KSDAE) of the Ministry of Forestry, Satyawan Pudyatmoko, an investigation was carried out between BB TNBTS and involved the police since September 2024. So that the discovery of the cannabis field is not new.

Head of Region II of Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS), Dicky Hendra, also explained that the marijuana fields found by officers amounted to 59 points. Each deposit has a varied area of land.

Head of the TNBTS Center, Rudijanta Tjahja Nugraha, explained that the discovery of the cannabis field was on the east side of the TNBTS area. He explained that the location of the findings was not on the Bromo and Semeru routes, but was on the east side of the TNBTS.

The location of the discovery is in the area of the Pusung Duwur Resort Management of the Seduro and Gucialit National Parks. The area is included in the working area of the Regional III TN Management Section. Meanwhile, administratively, the location is located in Senduro and Gucialit sub-districts, Lumajang Regency.

The TNBTS also dismissed the issue that the ban on the use of drones was related to marijuana fields in the Bromo area. TNBTS emphasized that the ban on drones itself will take effect as of 2019. This is in accordance with the SOP Number SOP.01/T.8/BIDTEK/BIDTEK.1/KSA/4/2019 concerning Mount Semeru Climbing.

The ban on the use of drones is carried out for the safety of climbers and avoiding ecosystems being disrupted and protecting sacred areas around Mount Semeru.

Based on an official broadcast from the Ministry of Forestry, for now the Lumajang Resort Police (Polres) have arrested six people who were named suspects. Two people who were arrested in November 2024 were residents of Argosari Village with the initials S and J respectively. While the rest with the initials N, B, Y, and P have been arrested and are currently undergoing trial at the Lumajang District Court.
