JAKARTA - Member of Commission I DPR from the PPP faction, Syaifullah Tamliha, asked President Joko Widodo to be firm and quick in addressing the issue of the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) in Papua.

According to him, the Head of BIN, Kabais TNI, and Kabaintelkam Polri need to evaluate the special operations that have been carried out so far. Following the incident a one-star general was killed by the KKB.

"I hope that the Head of BIN, Kabais TNI and Kabaintelkam Polri need to work together and coordinate to evaluate the special operations carried out so far," said Tamliha.

In addition, the TNI Commander and the Police Chief must also take firm action against the KKB because this issue constitutes a gross human rights violation. If not, according to Tamliha, violent incidents by the KKB could happen again.

"For the sake of the dignity of the Republic of Indonesia and the sovereignty of the nation, the KKB in Papua needs to be immediately acted upon with firm action," he concluded.

Meanwhile, member of Commission I DPR Golkar faction Christina Aryani reminded the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD, must take careful and measured steps to immediately respond to the existing situation and conditions. The TNI also needs to increase vigilance.

"The TNI's steps in assigning to Papua certainly need to be supported with a very high level of vigilance. We do not want more victims to fall in the future, both from civil society and our apparatus," said Christina.
