Commission IV Of The DPR Will Summon The Ministry Of Transportation Regarding Marijuana Fields In Bromo

JAKARTA - Commission IV of the DPR will summon the Ministry of Forestry (Kemenhut) regarding the discovery of a marijuana field covering an area of 6,000 square meters at 59 points in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park conservation area (TNBTS), East Java.

"We will immediately summon, asking for an explanation from the Ministry of Forestry which is indeed responsible for the management of the national park," said Member of Commission IV DPR RI, Daniel Johan, Wednesday, March 19.

Daniel also admitted that he was surprised by the issue of finding marijuana fields in the Bromo area. The reason is, TNBTS is a conservation area that should be under the control and strict supervision of the government, especially the Ministry of Forestry (Kemenhut).

"Of course this is a surprising thing. Not only for the community, but also for all Commission IV. Because the location of this marijuana field is in the midst of the national park, which should be under government control, under the control of the Ministry of Forestry," said the West Kalimantan electoral district PKB legislator.

Therefore, Daniel said, the leadership and members of Commission IV of the DPR RI plan to summon the ranks of the Ministry of Transportation to ask for further explanation regarding the findings of the marijuana field.

In addition, continued Daniel, Commission IV also wants to ascertain whether the findings of marijuana fields also occur or not in other national parks in the country.

"We will also make sure the same thing doesn't happen in other national parks, or in places that are under government control," he concluded.

As previously reported, a narrative circulated on social media stating that there were marijuana fields at 59 points in the Mount Bromo tourist area. The area is allegedly up to 6,000 square meters.

The narrative is attributed to the ban on drone flights at that location or having to pay Rp. 2,000,000 in order to keep flying drones.

Head of the TNBTS Center, Rudijanta Tjahja Nugraha, said the marijuana field was found in the TNBTS area in September 2024. This finding is the result of the development of narcotics cases handled by the Lumajang Police.

"On September 18-21, 2024, the TNBTS Center together with the Lumajang Resort Police, the TNI, and the Argosari Village apparatus, Senduro District, Lumajang Regency, managed to find a marijuana plant based on the determination of the location coordinates in the Pusung Duwur Block," he said when confirmed, Wednesday, March 19.
