BEKASI - After dismantling hundreds of houses on the banks of Kali Sepak, West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi instructed the demolition of illegal buildings along the river flow managed by Perum Jasa Tirta (PJT) in Sriamur Village, North Tambun District, Bekasi Regency, Sunday, March 16.

"The demolition continues, and it turns out that the number of illegal buildings is increasing," said Dedi Mulyadi when directly observing the control process.

Tracing results show that within a radius of 5 kilometers, land along the river flow has turned into a residential area. As a result, the main function of the river as a water channel is disrupted, which contributes to flooding in the area.

According to Dedi Mulyadi, many land owned by PJT is controlled by the community and used to build permanent houses. Therefore, these buildings must be demolished so that the river function returns to optimal.

"More than 5 kilometers of waterways have turned into settlements. Finally, water does not have a disposal route, so flooding is unavoidable," he said.

He ensured that river normalization efforts in Bekasi Regency would continue to be carried out in order to reduce the risk of flooding in the future.

"I make sure everything is reorganized. This project will not stop," he added.

Meanwhile, Junaedi (46), a resident around the demolition site, appreciated the government's steps in normalizing the river. However, he hopes that the demolition process will be carried out evenly so as not to cause social jealousy.

"We support the demolition, but please all buildings along the river are demolished, not just part of it," said Junaedi.

According to him, even demolition will ensure that the normalization project runs optimally and more fairly for the community. "If everything is dismantled, that's just fair," he concluded.

He hopes that Dedi Mulyadi can carry out river normalization and dismantle illegal buildings.
