The Batam Customs Main Service Office (KPU), Riau Islands thwarted the smuggling of international network drugs involving members of the Tanjungpinang Police Brigadier SS.

Batam Customs Chief Zaky Firmansyah confirmed the arrest of a member of the Tanjungpinang Police by the Ditresnarkoba of the Riau Islands Police regarding drugs. This is the result of an in-depth investigation of the disclosure made by his staff at the Ferry International Batam Center Port some time ago.

"That's right, the catch from the Batam Customs and collaboration with the Riau Islands Police's Narcotics Directorate was developed," Zaky said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, March 12.

Head of the Batam Customs Information and Guidance Division, Evi Octavia, explained that his party's efforts to thwart the smuggling of international narcotics networks starting from the arrival terminal of the Ferry International Batam Center on Wednesday (5/3).

At that time, officers arrested one perpetrator with the initials PG (32), from Tanjungpinang, who was found to have methamphetamine (shabu) type drugs weighing 185 grams.

"The action was carried out on the basis of the officer's suspicion of the movement of one of the passengers on the MV shortcut ferry Luxury 1 which came from the Seabones, Malaysia at around 13.15 WIB," he said.

On this suspicion, officers conducted an inspection of passengers with the help of a sniffer dog belonging to the K-9 unit. Although the suspected passengers had avoided it, they were finally able to be examined by officers.

"When the passenger was examined, he could not explain the purpose of going to Malaysia, so it added suspicion," he said.

The officer then did a urine test and the results were positive for methampetamine and amethamine.

When the urine test was carried out, PG admitted that he had brought a package suspected of containing methamphetamine. In addition, after a physical examination, a plastic package was found hidden in a diapers suspected of having methamphetamine.

The officer then tested the sample using the Ubatcotest and the results changed blue or positive methamphetamine.

"Based on this evidence, PG was taken to Batam Customs for further investigation," said Evi.

Based on the investigation carried out, PG admitted that he brought methamphetamine on the orders of a man with the initials SS, who was a friend playing football.

According to PG's confession, this is the first time he has worked as a courier, he has been offered a job to accompany SS to take crystal methamphetamine in Malaysia with a salary of Rp. 5 million per trip.

However, he continued, when in Malaysia, SS ordered PG to bring the methamphetamine with wages raised to Rp10 million per trip.

"SS departed from Tanjungpinang to Batam on Saturday (1/3) using the ferry on the Tanjung Uban-Telaga Punggur route," he said.

SS is known to have left with PG and also a woman with the initials AA who is the lover of PG.

Arriving at Telaga Punggur Port, the three of them left for Batam Center Port to continue their journey to Solang Laut, Malaysia.

Based on PG's confession, the methamphetamine was received by SS from a man with the initials B on Tuesday (4/3).

"PG admitted that he did not meet and did not know B," he said.

After receiving the goods from B, SS immediately gave the goods to PG, which was initially rejected because the initial agreement was only to accompany him. However, after negotiating and raising the wages, PG agreed to bring the goods.

"PG received methamphetamine in the form of diapers to wear, the plan is to give it to a person with the initials IIS in Tanjungpinang," said Evi.

Customs and Excise has issued a Proof of Enforcement and is then handed over to the Riau Islands Regional Police.

"This action is a commitment and collaboration between Customs and Excise with the Riau Islands Police in fighting drug smuggling in the Riau Islands region," he said.

After the arrest of PG, the Riau Islands Police's Narcotics Directorate arrested SS, a member of the Tanjungpinang Police with the rank of Brigadier General with a woman with the initials AA at a boarding house in the Sei Panas area, Batam City, Thursday (6/3) in the morning.

Currently, the three of them have been detained at the Riau Islands Police detention center and an intensive examination is being carried out to reveal the network involved in them.
