DPD RI Member Encourages Widyalaya School Development

JAKARTA - Member of the DPD RI Ida Bagus Rai Dharmawijaya Mantra encourages the development of more Hindu-based education or widyalaya schools.

Ida Bagus Rai Dharmawijaya Mantra in Denpasar, Bali, Saturday, said that widyalaya schools are important to develop because they have four good goals, namely Sidhi or intelligence, Sidha (skills), Sudha (honesty), and Sadhu (wiseness).

"I advocate between the Hindu Guidance Ministry of Religion and local governments so that this religious and cultural-based widyalaya school is socialized and realized, because it is the executor of the regions and those with the authority of the ministry," he said.

According to him, currently, widyalaya schools in Indonesia accommodate 3,698 active students in 120 educational units ranging from kindergarten to high school/vocational school.

Rai Mantra then invited other schools such as the private sector to register as a widyalaya school because there was no different curriculum between religious and cultural-based schools and other formal education.

"In fact, added value is obtained considering that religious-based schools generally receive more skills learning material accompanied by knowledge of good religious values in today's modern era," he said.

He said that all are oriented towards good human resources, human resources who have good skills and behavior or morals.

"So that religious and cultural-based schools are needed to answer the challenges of human capital needs," said the member of Committee III of the DPD RI.
