Israel Criticizes Gaza Reconstruction Plan Adopted At Arab Summit

JAKARTA - Israel criticized the plans proposed by Arab countries for Gaza's reconstruction at the Arab summit held in Egypt.

Countries have agreed on a plan to reconstruct the Gaza Strip, Palestine carried by Egypt, which will cost US$53 billion, avoiding the relocation of Palestinians from the enclave, contrary to the vision of the "Middle East Riviera" of United States President Donald Trump.

Shortly after the summit of Arab leaders in Cairo, Israel's Foreign Ministry said plans for reconstruction "failed to overcome" the reality of the situation following the Hamas attack on October 7 against Israel.

"Hamas' brutal terrorist attack, which resulted in thousands of deaths of Israelis and hundreds of kidnappings, has not been mentioned, nor has there been any condemnation of this assassination terrorist entity," the foreign ministry said.

Israel reiterated its support for President Trump's idea, aimed at displacing Palestinians and relocating them to Jordan and Egypt, saying Arab countries had rejected it without giving it a chance.

Israel also criticized the statement, which relies on the Palestinian Authority and UNRWA, which it said had previously "shown corruption and support for terrorism".

The Arab statement condemned Israel's latest decision to stop aid from entering Gaza, calling for an end to Israel's "aggression" in the West Bank, and affirming the vital role of UNRWA in Gaza and the West Bank.

On the other hand, militant group Hamas called for the provision of facilities to ensure the success of the plan, considering the summit a "step forward" for Arab and Islamic support behind the Palestinian struggle.

Palestinian militant groups are urging Arab leaders to force Israel to commit to a ceasefire agreement with Hamas.

"We appreciate the attitude of Arabs who reject efforts to displacing our people," said Hamas.
