DPRD Values New Tariffs For Clean Water In Jakarta Are Still Cheaper Than Jerry Can Water

JAKARTA - Member of Commission B of the DKI Jakarta DPRD Andri Santosa assessed that the new tariff for piped clean water which has increased since January 2025 for some groups of people is still affordable.

In fact, according to him, the tariff set by PAM JAYA is still very affordable for middle to lower-income residents or low-income people (MBR) rather than jerry cans sold using carts to residents' homes.

"The tariff issued by PAM JAYA is certainly much cheaper than buying jerry cans or carts," Andri told reporters, Tuesday, March 3.

However, Andri does not deny that the DKI Jakarta BUMD must continue to improve services for customers. This includes paying attention to the economic side that aims to make a profit.

"PAM JAYA cannot leave the business side either, but must also prioritize services as the leg of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government," he explained.

Moreover, this Golkar Party politician views that the tariff adjustment made by PAM Jaya is needed to accelerate the target of 100 percent water ready to drink by 2030. Moreover, the increase in water rates only lasted 17 years ago.

"Because around 17 years, yes, there has never been an adjustment," said Andri.

Previously, the President Director of Perumda PAM Jaya Arief Nasrudin explained that the tariff increase only targeted groups with water consumption of more than 10 m3 to 20 m3 and above 20 cubic meters.

For example, the category of very simple household customers or simple households using PAM water is around Rp. 150,000 per month, only experiencing an increase in tariffs of Rp. 5,000 compared to old rates.

"There is an increase but a month the increase is Rp. 5,000. So it feels like this figure is Rp. 5,000, this figure is still very reasonable, so it can still be broken down by the community," said Arief.

Meanwhile, social customer groups specifically for use up to 10 cubic meters experienced a reduction in tariffs. As for other group customers, it remains the same as before.

"If household customers use water wisely with consumption at 10 m3, then there will be no change in the rate that will be felt by the customer, considering that the tariff on the 0-10 m3 requirement is still relatively the same," said Arief.
