JAKARTA - Lech Walesa, former president of Poland and leader of the Solidaritas union who played a major role in the fall of Communism, signed a letter addressed to US President Donald Trump.

It contained a "territion" over the incident of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy who was cornered in a heated debate at the White House, Friday, February 28 last week.

The Nobel Peace Prize winner posted a text letter signed by 39 former Polish political prisoners on Facebook on Monday, March 3.

In an extraordinary meeting broadcast live on Friday last week, Trump accused Zelenskyy of not thanking the US for his US assistance, showing disrespect for his country and risking a Third World War, raising doubts over Washington's support for Ukraine in a three-year war with Russia.

"We watched your conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy with horror and dislike," the letter said.

"We consider your hope in showing respect and gratitude for the material assistance the United States provides to Ukraine in its fight against Russia is offensive," the letter continued.

"Our gratitude goes to the heroic Ukrainian soldiers who spilled blood to defend the values of the free world," he continued.

Trump and Vice President JD Vance met Zelenskyy during the meeting, thus pushing relations with Kyiv's most important ally during the war to new lows.

The Ukrainian president was asked to leave the White House after a heated dispute that was also triggered by US Vice President JD Vance when he asked Zelenskyy to "mandatory" thank the US.

The letter signed by Walesa compared the atmosphere during the meeting with the atmosphere found in "interrogation by the Security Service and in communist courts".

They also asked the United States to fulfill security guarantees given to Ukraine in 1994 following the outbreak of the Soviet Union.

"This guarantee is unconditional: not a single word treats the aid as an economic exchange," the letter said.

The US Embassy in Warsaw said questions about the letter should be addressed to the White House press office, which did not immediately respond to email requests for comment.

The current President of Poland Andrzej Duda said on Saturday the weekend, Zelensk7y had to re-negotiate with the US.
