JAKARTA - NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte asked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to restore ties with US President Donald Trump after the two got into an argument in the Oval Room of the White House.

"It is important for President Zelenskyy to find a way to restore his relationship with the President of America and with the senior American leadership team. I discussed this with Zelenskyy yesterday," Rutte told the British BBC.

Rutte said the quarrel between the two leaders was very unfortunate. Earlier on Friday, February 28, talks between Trump and Zelensky over resolving the conflict in Ukraine ended in failure after they got into an argument in the Oval Room and were covered directly by the media.

Senior US officials then asked the Ukrainian delegation to leave the White House and Trump-Zelenskyy's press conference was canceled. Trump also canceled the signing of a rare earth mineral agreement between the US and Ukraine.

According to Rutte, Zelenskyy must respect what Trump has done for Ukraine, including the delivery of weapons during Trump's first term as US President.

After the fight at the White House, Zelenskyy said in an interview with Fox News that he believed he had done nothing wrong and refused to apologize to Trump.

However, Zelenskyy said he believed his relationship with the US President could be restored.

"Yes, of course, because this relationship is more than just a relationship between the two presidents," Zelenskyy said in the interview.
