Three Coal Thieves Successfully Arrested By Police In Cirebon

Cirebon City Police (Polresta) arrested three perpetrators of coal theft weighing 18 tons in a temporary storage area owned by a private company in Bendungan Village, Cirebon, West Java.

Head of Cirebon Police, Kombes Pol. Sumarni, said the three arrested perpetrators had the initials N (40), D (43), and RR (41). They were arrested after being proven to have conspired in the theft.

"Suspect N acts as a truck driver, while D is a field supervisor, and RR serves as a loader operator," Sumarni said when confirmed in Cirebon, Saturday.

He explained that from the results of the investigation, it was known that the three perpetrators conspired to steal coal by loading it into the truck without the company's knowledge.

The theft took place recently. The 18 tonnes of coal was then transported using a Mitsubishi Tronton truck with the D-9818-AE police number, "he said.

According to him, after successfully bringing coal out of the location, the perpetrators sold it to someone with the initials S for Rp. 12.5 million.

The police chief revealed that suspect N received a reward of Rp. 500 thousand, from the sale of the stolen coal.

"Police who received reports related to coal loss immediately carried out an investigation until they finally managed to identify the perpetrators," he said.

He conveyed that in the disclosure of this case, the police also confiscated a number of evidences, including a tronton truck used to transport coal.

In addition, continued Sumarni, officers also secured travel documents, coal purchase invoices, and other documents related to this case.

He emphasized that the perpetrators were charged with Article 363 of the Criminal Code concerning theft with Weighting, with a maximum penalty of seven years in prison.

Currently, the Cirebon Police are still developing to reveal the possible involvement of other parties in the theft network.

"We appeal to the company to increase supervision and security systems to prevent similar incidents," he said.
