JAKARTA - Police arrested a man who raped a woman on a bus at Swargate Pune Station, India on Friday, February 28 morning local time.

The perpetrator, Dattatray Ramdas Gade, was arrested in a massive law enforcement operation.

When arrested, the police found a used bond around the neck of the perpetrator suspected of having attempted suicide from the person concerned.

"According to the main medical report, the former bond was found in the defendant. It is suspected that he attempted suicide. We are waiting for the final report," said Police Commissioner Pune, Amitesh Kumar to the PTI news agency, Friday, February 28, quoted from the Hindustan Times.

The whereabouts of the perpetrators were detected after Dattatray lacked logistics during his escape as a fugitive to his place of origin in a remote village in Tehsil Shirur.

Dattatray asked for food and water from the homes of residents who identified the fugitive's identity and then reported it to the police.

Police who were already at the location in the search operation followed up on the report by deploying sniffer dogs and unmanned aircraft.

Dattatray's hiding place was later discovered in one of the large sugar cane plantations at the Swargate Pune bus station where Dattatray carried out its depraved act against a 26-year-old woman.

We have analyzed several things such as security, bus doors, dark spots, and more. We will discuss them with the state's transportation department, and formal action will be implemented soon," Amitesh said.
