Reflecting On The Death Of Students In The Role Of Suicide Scenes, KPAI Asks Schools To Filter Themes In Art Performance

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) asked schools to conduct initial screening of art performance activities and ensure that there is no element of violence in the theme or scene in it.

This was said by KPAI in response to the case of a vocational school student in West Bandung with the initials MRD (17) who died while playing a suicide scene on an art performance. The police said the incident was purely an accident.

"We urge schools throughout Indonesia to conduct initial screening when conducting an art performance to ensure that there is no element of violence in every scene," said KPAI member Diyah Puspitarini when contacted in Jakarta, Friday, February 28, as quoted by Antara.

According to Dyah, the selection of themes and scenes in the art performance is important to prevent violence against children.

He said, there are many positive things that deserve to be used as art performance themes such as love for the homeland, peace, or culture.

"By raising a promotive theme such as peace and culture, it is much more prioritized," he said.

Previously, MDR was one of the actors in an art performance entitled juvenile delinquency at Dharma Pertiwi Vocational School, Padalarang, West Bandung, on Thursday, February 20.

In the art performance activity, there was a scene of violence that was experienced by MDR. The property in the scene uses original scissors.

The scene resulted in the death of the victim.

The art performance is an annual routine agenda as part of the practice exam for grade 12 students for student graduation requirements.
