The 7th President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) dismissed accusations by PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto that the revision of the Corruption Eradication Commission (RUU KPK) was his initiative to smooth out Gibran Rakabuming Raka and Bobby Nasution's steps in political contestation.
"That's a story. Everyone can make stories," said Jokowi in Solo, Wednesday, February 26.
Jokowi denied allegations that he was involved in the preparation of the KPK Bill for the political interests of his son and son-in-law. According to him, the revision of the KPK Law is an initiative of all factions of the DPR since 2015 and does not come from him.
"What is the relationship? Use logic. The period of revision of the KPK Law is carried out only for the election of mayors? What's true," he said.
Jokowi then explained the chronology of the discussion on the revision of the KPK Law which was first submitted by the DPR in 2015, but was not discussed because of disagreements with the government.
"From 2015 the DPR has proposed this revision to Prolegnas. However, at that time there was no agreement with the government, so it was not discussed," he said.
In 2016 to 2018, the DPR again proposed a revision, but still did not find a common ground. Only in 2019, all factions of the DPR approved the revision of the KPK Law and brought it to the DPR plenary meeting to be ratified.
"All factions in the DPR agreed, then discussed and knocked on the hammer at the plenary meeting at the DPR's initiative," Jokowi explained.
Regarding the Presidential Letter (Surpres) issued to make the revision of the KPK Law a success, Jokowi emphasized that if he refuses, it will conflict with all factions in the DPR.
"If all factions of the DPR agree, then the president refuses, then it is tantamount to being hostile to all factions," he said.
However, he also emphasized that he did not sign the revision of the KPK Law, even though in the laws and regulations, after 30 days, the law still applies even without the president's signature.

"I did not sign. But the rules remain after 30 days," he said.
Allegations against Jokowi appear in a video uploaded on the YouTube channel correction_org on Saturday (22/2/2025). In the video, Hasto Kristiyanto said Jokowi was responsible for the revision of the KPK Law which was passed in 2019.
