Floods Hit Four Villages In Tulungagung

Residents helped push a motorbike that broke down while crossing the highway flooded at the Cuwiri intersection, Tulungagung, East Java, Wednesday (26/2/2025).

JAKARTA - The flash flood disaster hit four villages in two sub-districts in Tulungagung Regency, East Java.

In addition to submerging tens of hectares of rice fields in Simo and Majan Villages, Kedungwaru District, the flood also caused hundreds of houses in Podorejo and Mojosari Villages, Kauman District to be severely affected by flooding.

The flood also closed the main road section of Tulungagung-Kediri, causing traffic flow to slow down at the northern point of the Cuwiri intersection.

Head of Disaster Emergency and Logistics Division of BPBD Tulungagung, Gilang Zelakusuma, said the flood occurred at two points around Tulungagung City, namely around Majan-Simo Village, Kedungwaru District, and in Podorejo-Mojosari Village, Kauman District.

"For those in Podorejo (and Mojosari) this is the second flood this time it has occurred due to river water overflowing and entering settlements," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, February 26.

The flood with a height of almost 1 meter caused residents' activities to be disrupted.

The traffic flow was cut off before several vehicles were desperate to cross the flood.

"However, we remain on standby if there are residents who must be evacuated or the situation is an emergency," he said.

Meanwhile, floods also occurred in the Majan area, Kedungwaru District, as a result of the river embankment breaking along 50 meters.

As a result, hundreds of hectares of rice fields in two villages (Majan and Simo Villages) were submerged in water, making them look like lakes.

Majan Village Apparatus, Bastomi, said the incident of the embankment was broken by residents at around 14.30 WIB when it rained heavily.

According to him, before the collapse the condition of the embankment had been porous and had been reported to Perum Jasa Tirta, but there had been no response.

"The vulnerable are not only here," said Bastomi.
