JAKARTA - Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Rano Karno promised to increase the number of firefighters by recruiting a thousand people every year. This is in response to the lack of officers at the DKI Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat).

The number of firefighters is now 3,700 people. In fact, ideally, Jakarta has 11,000 firefighters, which includes fire and rescue ranges in all urban villages.

"This year we can recruit how many? For example, every year, at least 1,000 people, because Jakarta only needs 11,000 for firefighters," said Rano in Makasar District, East Jakarta, Wednesday, February 26.

The man who is familiarly called Doel admitted that the DKI Provincial Government cannot immediately meet the needs of firefighters within one year. This is because the Provincial Government also has many work programs that have been budgeted and must be implemented this year.

"The need for an 11 thousand firefighters is impossible in 1 year. We will gradually, because this involves returning again, I have only been working for 6 days, the APBD has been knocked with various programs," explained Rano.

Previously, the Acting Head of the DKI Jakarta Fire and Rescue (Gulkarmat) Agency, Satriadi Gunawan, admitted that the number of firefighters (damkar) is currently far from ideal.

In fact, each fire station requires 18 personnel divided by 6 people in 3 units. In fact, one post is only filled with 9 people with a distribution of 3 people per unit.

"A unit must be manned by 6 people, now 3 people, meaning there is a double function. Now that can be dangerous for them in carrying out their duties," Satriadi told reporters, Tuesday, February 4.

The Gulkarmat Service, continued Satriadi, has proposed a budget for the addition of firefighters since 3 years ago. However, so far it has not been allocated.

"The fact is that we lack personnel. Because it's nothing, oh, I feel sorry for my members. I'm tired, I'm tired, they are," said Satriadi.

Therefore, the Gulkarmat Service formed fire volunteers from elements of society. They helped efforts to deal with fires such as rolling and pulling the hose during the fire incident, to socializing to the public about prevention.

"That's why last year the number of fires fell by 13.4 percent. That's because there is our program related to the procurement of APAR, the formation of fire volunteers, and so on," he said.
