BANDUNG - Bandung City Government (Pemkot) handled four disaster-affected points due to heavy rains and strong winds such as fallen trees until the roof of the shop collapsed due to the incident.

Head of the Housing and Settlement Areas (DPKP) of Bandung City, Rizki Kusrulyadi, said the four disasters occurred on Tuesday, February 25 during heavy rains and strong winds that hit the area.

"There were no casualties in this incident, but there was one fallen tree that hit the shop. Meanwhile, on Jalan Batu Api, a fallen tree occurred on a private road, so we only helped evacuate temporarily," said Rizki in Bandung, Wednesday, February 26, quoted by Antara.

Rizki stated that his party had completed handling four fallen trees in various locations, such as Jalan Sultan Agung, Halimun, Guntursari Wetan and Jalan Batu Api.

According to him, the main factor of falling trees is the condition of fragile roots due to age and extreme weather. Although his party routinely cuts, there is still a risk of trees falling during heavy rain accompanied by strong winds.

"Strengthening trees is not always seen from the outside. Sometimes the roots are porous in the ground without any previous signs being seen," he said.

As an anticipatory measure, he said, DPKP continues to trim trees regularly every day. However, due to the area and the large number of trees in Bandung City, monitoring is carried out in stages.

Furthermore, he explained that the Bandung City Government had collaborated with insurance to provide compensation for victims affected by fallen trees.

"For vehicles that are hit by trees, the maximum compensation is Rp. 25 million, depending on the level of damage. If there are casualties, compensation can reach Rp. 50 million," he said.

Rizki appealed to the public in dealing with the rainy season and the potential for strong winds, to be more careful, especially when doing activities around large trees.

"If it rains heavily with the wind, you should avoid taking shelter under a large tree to reduce the risk of being hit by a broken branch or a fallen tree," he said.
