KPK Checks AKP SR Investigator Suspected Of Blackmailing Tanjungbalai Mayor

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is examining investigators who are suspected of extortion against the Mayor of Tanjungbalai, M Syahrial. This examination was carried out after AKP SR investigators were arrested by the Police Propam team.

"After being secured yesterday, the KPK investigating team is currently conducting an examination of this person at the Red and White House," said Acting KPK spokesman for the field of prosecution Ali Fikri in a written statement, Thursday, April 22.

According to him, the KPK is still collecting evidence and asking for information from a number of parties related to the alleged extortion carried out by investigators from the police. Not only that, the KPK Supervisory Board will also carry out investigations of suspected ethical violations in parallel.

"We ensure that the handling of the case of the alleged receipt of this money will be investigated by the KPK in a transparent manner. For this reason, we invite the public to oversee the process," he said.

Ali emphasized that the KPK will not tolerate corrupt acts and violations of the code of ethics committed by its employees.

"The developments regarding this will inform further," he said.

Previously reported, the AKP SR investigators reportedly asked the Mayor of Tanjungbalai to stop the case being investigated by the KPK. The money requested reached IDR 1.5 billion.

The KPK is indeed investigating the alleged bribery related to the auction of positions at the Tanjungbalai City Government in 2019.

Regarding the action of one of his subordinates, KPK Chairman Firli Bahuri then spoke up. He said his party would take firm action because the KPK did not tolerate irregularities.

"The KPK will not tolerate irregularities and will ensure that it will take action against perpetrators of corruption indiscriminately," said Firli.

He emphasized that the KPK continues to carry out investigations related to this alleged extortion by collecting various other preliminary evidence. Furthermore, the results of the investigation will be followed up with a case title immediately in the leadership expose forum.
