Tuesday Afternoon, Prabowo Received A Visit From The Russian Security Secretary At The Jakarta Palace

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to receive a visit from the Secretary of the Russian Security Council, Sergei K. Shoigu, at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday, February 25, noon.

This information was conveyed by the Deputy for Press and Media Protocol of the Presidential Secretariat, M. Yusuf Permana, via a short message quoted by ANTARA.

"This afternoon at the Merdeka Palace, President Prabowo will receive the Secretary of Russian Security, His Excellency Mr. Sergei K. Shoigu, at around 12.30 WIB," he said.

The meeting with President Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta was part of Sergei K. Shoigu's working visit to Indonesia in order to discuss issues of security and defense.

Shoigu is currently making visits to Indonesia and Malaysia which is scheduled to last until February 28, 2025. This information was quoted from the Russian News Agency, RIA, which referred to a statement from the press office of the Russian Security Council, as reported by Reuters on Monday, February 24.

During his visit, Shoigu will discuss various important issues related to bilateral relations between Russia and Indonesia and Malaysia. The topic of discussion includes security, defense, and opportunities for developing cooperation in other fields that are of common interest.

Shoigu is a Russian political figure who has served as Secretary of the Russian Security Council since May 13, 2024. Previously, he served as Minister of Defense from 2012 to 2024 and was the Governor of Oblast in 2012.

Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Russia has faced sanctions from Western countries supporting Kyiv. This situation prompted Russian President Vladimir Putin to further strengthen relations with countries in the Asian region.
