JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Arrmanatha Nasir, said that the world needs brave leadership and firm decisions, when global challenges are increasingly complex, calling for collective strategies of G20 cooperation forum countries.
This was conveyed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Meeting (G20 FMM) in Session III of the G20 Foreign Ministers Meeting which discussed the organization's long-term goals and reflections of the two decades of the organization's journey.
The G20 FMM this time will be held on February 20-21 in Johannesburg, South Africa. The Rainbow Nation holds the G20 Presidency from December 1, 2024 to November 30 with the theme "Global Solidarity, Equality, and Sustainability".
In his speech at the G20 FMM this time, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Tata emphasized that the fragile world economy, increasing climate disasters and widening social inequality requires concrete and coordinated steps.
Deputy Foreign Minister Tata said that there are four things that Indonesia has highlighted regarding the G20 and the current global situation. First, the G20 requires a sustainable collective strategy and a real impact.
"The global challenge cannot be resolved with a short-term solution. We need a roadmap that places human welfare, environmental protection, and mutual prosperity as a top priority," said Deputy Foreign Minister Tata in a statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as quoted on February 23.
Furthermore, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tata raised the importance of strengthening resilience to the crisis. The world faces the threat of a multidimensional crisis, from climate change to economic turmoil.
For this reason, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs highlighted the need for a stronger early warning system, investment in resilient infrastructure, and a sustainable financing mechanism for disaster-prone countries.
"No country should be forced to choose between paying debts or ensuring protection for its people," said Deputy Foreign Minister Tata.
Furthermore, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia calls for financing mobilization to accelerate the energy transition, including through public-private partnership investments.
"We must ensure that the energy transition does not deepen the global gap, but creates an inclusive growth opportunity," he explained.
Finally, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tata encourages the G20 to become an action platform, not just a discussion forum. The G20 should be a catalyst for change with a measurable and transparent commitment. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Tata encourages real action in strengthening the global supply chain, accelerating digital inclusion, and building a just green economy.
"The failure of the G20 to adapt will only make it a forum without real impact," Deputy Foreign Minister Tata warned.
Closing his speech, Deputy Foreign Minister Tata underlined that the world currently needs brave leadership and firm decisions.
